1. What is Personal Location & Tracking (PLT)?
PerDiemCo is a PDA/Phone application for providing Personel Tracking
using your GPS receiver data. With the PerDiemCo software on your PDA or
Phone you can do the following: · Show your PDA or Phone's current
location on a Map. · Establish geographic Zones with entry & exit
notification. · Selectively send your current location as a Map to
others. · Provide 'coded' web access to your Maps. · View location and
tracking on the PDA or on a PC Map. · Create Shared Zone and location
maps on the PDA and on the map Server. · Take photos & provide Location
or Map based Viewing.
2. How accurate is GPS?
Today's GPS receivers are extremely accurate, thanks to their
parallel multi-channel design. Certain atmospheric factors and other
sources of error can affect the accuracy of GPS receivers. Most GPS
receivers are accurate to within 15 meters (49 feet) 95% of the time.
Generally, users will see accuracy within 5 to 10 meters (16 to 33 feet)
under normal conditions. However, it won't be able to get positions
while indoors, underground or in tunnels.
3. What is START and END on the Page?
The default settings are 0 to ?, the ? means show all items for this PIN. The ? is the
symbol for ALL records. You can select a subset of the tracking data for your map. Each data Icon, when 'clicked', will display
information from the DB. One of these items is the record number. It will look like
this: Record:9/37 This shows that there are 37 records for this PIN and you are viewing record 9.
Enter a START number less then 37 and an END number greater then the START number to view that sequence of Icons on the map.
4. How do I establish a Bluetooth connection?
Ensure that the two devices are turned on, discoverable, and
within close range. Tap Start > Settings > Connections tab. Tap
Bluetooth > Devices tab > New Partnership. Your device searches for
other devices with Bluetooth capabilities, and displays them in the
list. Tap the name of the other device, and tap Next. In Passkey, if you
want to use a passkey (recommended for enhanced security), enter a
alphanumeric passkey between 1 and 16 characters, and tap Next.
Otherwise, leave the passkey blank, and tap Next. Enter the same passkey
on the other device. To give the partnership a more meaningful name,
change the name of the device in Name. Tap Finish.
5. Why do I get a map of Sacramento, CA when I tap the MAP
button?
The PDA/Phone needs GPS data (Lat/Lon) to retrieve a map.
Sacramento is the default Latitude & Longitude. To get a map switch the
GPS connection and 'capture' current Lat/Lon data and then request a
map. Running a Log file will also capture Lat/Lon from the file and a
map of the associated location can be requested.
6. How do I get a Map when I have no GPS data for that area?
Use the NAMES selection on the MAIN screen. If the address
information is in your Contact List use the search capability to find
the information Otherwise fill in the Name, Street Address and Zip Code
and ADD2LIST. Tap USE! then Tap GETMAP and the Map for that location
will be loaded into the PDA. If the USE FOR ZONE CheckBox is checked the
map can be used to create a Zone from the MAP/ZONE screen. Save names to
the List if frequent use is needed.
7. What is the difference between Location and Tracking?
Location is the current position of the device as recorded in
the database. When Polling is activated Location Packets are sent to the
Map Server at regular intervals (user selectable times). The Current
Location record is updated with this information. If Tracking (Trip On)
is activated, each Location Packet is stored in seperate data records,
the Current Location Record is also updated. The Tracking (Trip) data is
used to display the 'Tracks' using the Tracking Map on www.perdiemco.com/PDC.htm
web page.
8. What is the Maximum number of Tracking records allowed in
the database?
The current limit is 500 records. At 10 seconds per packet that
is about 80 minutes. If the Polling rate is 5 minutes then this is about
40 hours. When the limit is reached older records will be overwritten to
keep the total at 500 records and 100 per PIN number. Choose the Polling rate with these limits
in mind. The MAPS/DATA screen has a utility to GET CODES that shows
codes used and also the number of records in the database. Records can
be deleted by code ID from this page.
9. What data is sent out? How big is it?
The Location data packet includes coordinates
(latitude/longitude), speed,max speed, heading, altitude and GMT time.
Each sending is about 100 bytes.
10. Can I adjust the data sending intervals?
Yes. You can choose to send data every 10 seconds minimun up to
every 15 minutes, or you can manually send. To change the sending
interval, on GPS screen, tap the SetUp button on the GPS Screen, select
"Poll interval...".
11. How do I force sending data manually?
From the GPS Screen, select 'Send', the program will acquire
the current position and send to server, despite of the sending interval
value set in 'Setup'.
12. What is a ZONE?
(A Zone is a bounded geographic space. There are currently two
Zones defined in PLT. Zone1 is drawn in Red and Zone2 is drawn in Blue.
Both Zones can be created on the Web Page (members only) and Zone1 can
be created on the PDA. No Zones can be created on a SmartPhone at this
time. Zones created on the PC or the PDA are updated in the database
when saved and are immediately(sp) operational.
13. What are the capabilities of a Zone?
Zones respond to the entry and exit of the defined space. If
notification is enabled with an e-mail, SMS, or phone response, then the
entry and exit of the space is reported to these addresses with time and
movement information.
14. Who can create or delete Zones?
Zone creation is available on the web site www.perDiemCo.com/PDC.htm and
from PDA devices (Zone1 only). You must 'Login' on this site to be able
to access the Zone creation page. Zone information is viewable on all
devices using the MAP/DATA screen. Each device can 'see' their own
Zones. Zones can be created and shared using your deviceID and your
current 'Code' setting (see your config screen). Using the deviceID and
the code information other devices can load this Zone and 'Track'
entry/exit of the area. This is useful for group activities.
15. What is a PASSCODE?
A 'PASSCODE' is a self assigned ID used to identify your data. You
provide this PASSCODE and your ID (usually your phone number) to allow
them to 'see' yor location on our web site or on their device. This code
can be changed to provide your data or trips with seperate identies.
This is useful to filter others access to your location. The CODE is
managed on the CONFIG screen.
16. What is a KEY?
Your KEY is provided to you when you become a registered MEMBER. This
identifies you as having setup and editing rights to your data, such as
Zone management, Group membership, Photo management, etc. DO NOT SHARE
THIS KEY, it is your secure way to manage your data!
17. How do I use POLLING, MARKERS, and TRIP on the SETUP screen?
These features provide control on the amout of data (location packets)
sent to the server. POLLING sets how often data is sent, MARKERS sets a
limit on how much is stored on the server, and TRIP toggles between
multiple records saved or a single location record being updated at the
POLLING rate. These choices will change the PC tracking display. POLLING
will change the spread between data points, depending on rate of travel.
MARKERS will display only ten (moving) Icons and ALL will display a long
trail of all location packets. TRIP OFF will display only one Icon
showing the current location, it will change at the Polling rate. TRIP
ON will display all data Icons.
